The Making of the Ad Lab Promotional Video

Creating the Ad Lab promotional video was super fun, thanks to the incredible talent of James Garrett, a freelance videographer based in Bishops Stortford, Radoslaw, our gifted motion graphic designer and the Ad Lab team. The goal of this video was simple yet I believe powerful: to offer a genuine snapshot of who we are as an eCommerce agency. In a world where many “agencies” seem to operate as mere fronts, I wanted our video to paint an authentic picture of our business—real people, in a real office, doing real work. Well, “real work” might be a bit of a stretch in this video, but let me explain why! The fact is, the faces you see in the video are the same ones our clients interact with on a daily basis.
As the founder of Ad Lab, I naturally took the lead in presenting our story. The guys even joked that I was a natural on camera—as long as I didn’t crack the lens, I considered that a win! We used a small transcript that I had written, which was uploaded to an autocue app. This allowed me to read from it comfortably, whether I was outside, in the office, or around our boardroom table. Most of the time, it was just me and James, which made things feel relaxed and natural. There was one memorable shot at my desk where the room was full of people trying not to giggle when James said “cue.” If you watch closely, you might notice me trying hard not to laugh!

We made it a point to showcase our studio, our team hard at work, and even staged a meeting. The funny part about the meeting scene is that we didn’t want to bother an actual client, so we asked our accountant, Graham, to sit in as a “client.” We certainly don’t mean to mislead anyone, which is why I’m coming clean here! However, the staged meeting does give a good flavour of what our clients can expect when working with Ad Lab.

You’ll notice the motion graphics of our logo, the websites we’ve designed, and the brands we work with. For this, we relied on Radoslaw, who used our brand guidelines to create some truly stunning motion graphics that added a polished touch to the video.

Now, onto the allotment—this part really made me chuckle. James, who has green credentials at his core (we like him a lot!), got incredibly excited when he saw our allotment plot. Initially, I wasn’t going to include the allotment, but with James’ encouragement, we decided to showcase Abdul and George collecting eggs from the chicken house, Brad and I watering the produce, and even some drone footage. What you don’t see is James making me dig up potatoes in suit trousers and smart shoes—luckily, that didn’t make the final cut!

Overall, the experience of making this video was fantastic. I hope that anyone who watches it will get a genuine glimpse into our agency. If you’re looking to grow your sales online, I encourage you to get in touch. At Ad Lab, we specialise in the design and development of Shopify, Magento, and WordPress WooCommerce websites, followed by measurable marketing strategies. We’re excited to share this final cut with the world, knowing that it not only showcases our capabilities but also reflects our values and the strong relationships we’ve built with our clients over time.
Here’s the final video. Enjoy 🙂
