Magento tutorial: How to add products on Magento
Adding products to your Magento store is, of course, one of the most essential elements of running your eCommerce business. After all, without products, there are no sales! So, how do you add products on Magento? As an experienced London Magento agency, we have created an easy follow-along tutorial that explains all the simple steps to upload products to your website, whilst also adding them to a category page.
Step 1
Firstly, you will need to start by logging onto the backend of your Magento store.
Step 2
Next, you will need to navigate the menu on the left-hand side of the page. Click catalogue -> products and then find the drop-down orange “add product” box. Select this box and then click simple product.
Step 3
After doing this, you will find a series of fields that need filling in to gather information about your product. The categories with an asterisk (*) next to them are compulsory elements, so ensure that you complete these sections first. The compulsory sections include information such as product name, SKU, price, quantity, category, weight, images, descriptions, and short descriptions.
Step 4
Taking a closer look at some of the fields which need completing, the “categories” section requires some further action. In this example, we have not yet created any categories, so let us create a new one by clicking “new category”. Enter your category name (here we have named the category “shoes”), select default category and then click create category in the top right-hand corner.
Step 5
Next, fill in the short description with information about your product and also fill in the main description too, helping customers find your product organically. You will then want to add a high-quality image of your product and, if you are using Google Shopping, there are certain fields that we can feed into Google Merchant Centre too.
Step 6
Once you have added all the critical information, click save on your edits. We will then view these updates in the backend, by clicking catalogue -> categories and there is our new category: “shoes”.
Step 7
Click “products in category” and copy the product URL to view it in the front end. Here, you will see your new product, in our example we can see the Nike Flat Shoes which we have been effectively added to the Magento store.
