Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration with improved user-centric designs and a more advanced high-security key order system.
Ironmongery Experts is a family-run business, supplying the construction and joinery industry with a uniquely personal ironmongery and hardware service. It was formed by its parent company, Wyatt Crocker Limited, in 1992 and has since grown to become one of the leading ironmongery suppliers for both direct consumers and trade.
The team at Ironmongery Experts has gained a wealth of knowledge over the years, surrounding architectural ironmongery, allowing them to provide their clients with expert advice and recommendations. A number of its staff are trained to the exacting standards set by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers, and further members are currently undergoing training.
The company can also produce master keyed systems with very short notice, thanks to their ‘in house’ keying workshop and a vast stock of cylinders and keys.
The main objective was to safeguard the business’ eCommerce store by adhering to Magento’s recommendations of migrating their legacy system on Magento 1 to Magento 2. When considering the process, the client requested a fresh new design in line with their brand guidelines, eCommerce best practices and to ensure the site used our creative and technical abilities in ensuring it was built visible for search from the ground-up.
Another key objective was to gather data and intelligence around a bespoke key ordering system which we initially developed on the Magento 1 store, and use this data to fully redesign and develop the software, providing a better user experience for customers seeking to register and order high-security keys.
Additional objectives were to ensure the website loads speeds were under 1 second, the transition of the website resulted in no loss of business, and feeds into Google and Bing Shopping were kept live throughout.
At Ad Lab, we successfully launched the new Magento 2 store on schedule and in line with the objectives as set out by the client.
The website boasts an improved and highly intuitive key ordering system, improved website navigation, enhanced load speeds by utilising the latest Varnish technologies, improved search features with Magneto’s elastic search and improved use of attribute sets and facets on the category pages.
The transition was smooth, with no downturn in business, and on the contrary, the website has increased in sales growth month on month.
So far, everything has been working. The work and everything that Advertising Lab has been doing for us is growing the business, so it has definitely been a success.
